FAQs About Therapy in Burlington VT

Do you have current openings for therapy?

Yes, we do! All openings are detailed on the contact page. Click below or the banner above for full details.

To inquire about working one of our therapists, please submit a contact form.

We know how hard it is to find a therapist, especially one who is somatically-oriented, queer-affirming, neurodiversity-competent, and works intersectionally. As such, we update availability here. Please check back frequently as we are actively growing our team.

What is somatic therapy?

Somatic therapy evokes the power, wisdom, and healing potential of the body to transform trauma, persistent anxiety, depression, shame, circular thoughts, nightmares, disconnection from the body, hypervigilance, numbness or physical pain. For a deeper dive, see this blog. To explore if somatic therapy is right for you, fill out this form or call us today at 802-222-0436.

What are your fees?

$130-200 for a 50 minute session for individuals.

$165-215 for a 50 minute couples/family session.

Intakes (your first session) are $225.

All therapists take Green Mountain Care/Dr Dynosaur (aka Vermont Medicaid).

What somatic modalities do your clinicians practice?

All of our licensed and rostered therapists are Brainspotting Level 1 and our Practice Supervisor is Level 5 certified. Twice monthly we gather as a train in somatic trauma transformation theory and practice from MawuLisa Adeyemo-Thomas, a matriarch instructor and somatic practitioner of the Generative Somatics lineage. Our therapists also receive additional training from our practice founder on somatics from a Chinese Medicine lense.

In addition, each clinician brings their own skills and experiences with the body, whether that come from a meditation, Internal Family Systems, music, yoga, Somatic Abolitionism, or ceremonial training. To learn more about each therapists’ approach, check out Our Team.

Do you offer telehealth or in-person therapy?

We offer telehealth therapy to people across the State of Vermont and in-person therapy in our offices in Bristol and Burlington, VT.

Do you take insurance?

Yes, we take Medicaid also known as Green Mountain Care. Please note we do not take Blue Cross.

You don’t take my insurance, but I want to work with one of your therapists. What can I do?

Check with your insurer if your plan includes out-of-network benefits for mental health. If so, we are happy to provide what is called a “superbill” for you to submit directly to your insurance carrier for reimbursement.

Where exactly are you located in Burlington?

We have two locations. In Burlington, VT we are in the Kilburn and Gates building at 305 St Paul St, Suite 323. There is parking off of Pine St on both sides of the building as well as 1 hour street parking on Kilburn. Enter 305 St Paul using the ramp or stairs and we are the last door on the right. The bathroom is ADA accessible, gender inclusive, and located inside the practice.

There are gender neutral bathrooms.

What is your cancellation policy?

Sessions canceled less than 48 hours in advance will be charged the full cost of the visit.

For patients using Green Mountain Care (Medicaid) there is no cancellation fee. However, more than 3 late cancellations or rescheduled sessions (if not done in the same week) is grounds for discharge from the practice.

Can I use my HSA/FSA card? What about my HRA?

Yes. Many folks utilize this payment method which effectively discounts your sessions by 20-35% on average (because you’re not paying income taxes on the cost of the treatment!). Some HRA policies require a letter of medical necessity — ask your HR rep.

Do you have a sliding scale?

No. We are only able to take Medicaid and private-pay clients at this time.

What are your Covid-19 policies and practices?

We’re in a gray-area between pandemic and endemic. At Refuge, we maintain that proper disinfection, and vaccination are foundational accessibility practices to keep all community members safe.

Both the Burlington, VT and Bristol, VT offices are outfitted with a HEPA filter and we disinfect high-touch surfaces between every patient. We also require masking in public spaces. If you have any new symptoms of Covid-19, please call/text to change your appointment to telehealth.

If you test positive for Covid, you may reschedule your in-person visit for 3 days after symptoms have fully resolved OR 7 days after your first positive test result (as long as symptoms have significantly improved and you haven’t have a fever for 24 hours).
