Somatic Therapy Burlington VT

Hi, I’m Amy Aiko Hovland (she/her). Rostered Somatic Psychotherapist working with teens, adults & couples.

You feel adrift— separate from others. You wonder, “who are my people, where are my people?”

You’ve frequently felt like an outsider, and long to feel a sense of belonging. But as the things you thought were non-negotiable change around you, your search for safety, embodiment, and grounding has only increased.

Hi! My name is Amy Aiko. I’m a Queer fourth-gen Japanese American biracial person and a somatic rostered psychotherapist. In our work, I will support you as a practical, openminded skeptic, to separate the difference between your thoughts, your bodily sensations, the story you tell yourself, and the feelings that affect you. This opens up space for you to get a glimpse of something incredible inside yourself you never knew was there. It can be like the sensation of synchronicity with your elder, wiser self. By leaning into therapy as an experimenter of your own life, you can experience your thought patterns changing before your eyes.

I have supported:

  • those who suffer from disordered eating and ARFID make a menu and a shopping list.

  • artists do the hard part they avoid.

  • folks decouple themselves from internalized beliefs around the binary, urgency, the right to comfort, perfectionism, and individualism.

  • people of all ages retrieve lost parts of themself by reaching through time and space to bring love and kindness to their younger, hurt selves.

  • the estranged reunite with lost ones.

  • caretakers manage teenagers who are struggling

  • workers who need more rest.

  • those averse to notions of a higher power vent about how religious the world is.

  • people who suffer from trauma around prison camps, racism, antisemitism, immigration harms and hazards.

  • people write their coming out story

  • folks of all genders navigate consent around sex.

  • people in all bodies before, during and after transition.

My clients say that working with me is like having an intergenerational resilience scout, a beacon of Queer multicultural joy at their side that supports them to dissolve the binary thinking that is keeping them isolated, lonely, and stuck. My super power is finding entryways into rest, softness and care and helping you to access somatic work at your own pace. I use Brainspotting, tapping, mindfulness, centering and grounding practices to liberate what wants to come through, be seen, held, and healed.
